Week of February 5, 2024

O if for an Outstanding Week!

Weekly Recap:  We loved learning all about groundhogs and Groundhog Day!  Our cold weather lovers were so disappointed that he didn't see his shadow but our warm weather friends were so excited about the news!  Learning about shadows was a blast!  Ask your little weather reporter to demonstrate on their groundhog craft... all you need to supply is a flashlight!  We were so impressed with our little artists' scissor skills!  They loved showing off their abilities!  Keep up with all the practicing at home.  Great job!

A Sneak Peek at Our Upcoming Week:  We will be learning Letter Pp, preparing for Valentine's Day, looking to the clouds in our Weather Unit as well a doing a lot of PAINTING!!!

💗Valentine's Day💗: We will be celebrating Valentine's Day in PreK-3 on Wednesday, February 14th. We will be exchanging Valentine's Day Cards in school.  Please send in one card per child with only your own child's name on each as the from whom the card is and not the name for whom it is intended.  This will make distribution much easier as the children are only just beginning to recognize each other's names.  We have 12 children in our class.  The children can either make their own little cards or they may be purchased.  Please don't spend a lot on them, the dollar stores usually carry class sets.  Please do not send in Valentines with food or candy as we have children with allergies in our class.  Your children may begin to bring in their cards whenever they are ready up through our celebration day on the 14th.  This little homework idea is completely optional: you may want to take this opportunity to have your child write their first initial (or full name if they are able to) on each of their cards and then finish the rest of their name for him/her.

Carline:  Thank you for your cooperation as we work out some kinks in our carline procedures.  Beginning on Monday, we will have cones set up on the fire lane in front of the Learning Center to create a little walkway between your vehicles and the teachers and students as we help your children into your cars.  We will also ask that you pull right up to the stop sign if you are the first car in our pick up line.  We will help three children into their cars at a time.  Please buckle your child in before moving your vehicle.  Once those three cars drive off, we ask that the next three cars drive all the way to the stop sign and right behind the lead vehicle.  We will follow the same procedure through the end of the carline.  Thanks again for your anticipated cooperation.  It really is for everyone's safety.

Our Week in Photos:

📸 Here's A Little Snap Shot of Our Week📸

We started off the week singing our weather song... and our weather reporter dressed our Weather Bear for SNOWY weather since it was actually snowing outside!

So we took advantage of that and wrote our "Snowy" stories!!

Then came the wishful thinking... we learned about Sunny Weather!!

And made our own SUNS!!

Our sunny crafts matched our sunny dispositions no matter what mother nature had in store for us outside!!

We did so well on our first Connect The Dots Activity!!
Can you guess what we made?

And our Sunny Stories were so amazing!!

Then we learned Letter O!

And learned so many interesting facts about Owls as well as other Nocturnal Animals!!

Our Five Day Friends did great on their Winter Time Activities!

And had so much fun playing Gross Motor Movement Games too!!

PreK-3 Playtimes are the BEST!!

Did you know that we do a lot of learning while we play too?!?!

The weather may have been cloudy and dreary outside but our dispositions were sunny and cheery inside!

Our Five Day Friends loved wrapping up learning about Diamonds with some sponge painting fun!

Day one of our Groundhog Craft involved LOTS of painting!

It was so messy but sooooo fun!!!

We used our scissors to dig some groundhog tunnels!!

And loved making our groundhog and its shadow puppets!

Our Groundhog song and dance was so cool!

Our Five Day Friends did so well on our Groundhog Matching Games!

Did you notice our new playdough color??

Can you guess what letter we made???

And then it was finally here... GROUNDHOG DAY!!!
Although Mrs. Selser and our other snowy weather lovers were so disappointed, our WARM WEATHER LOVERS were so excited over his prediction for an EARLY SPRING!!!

We did such a great job putting our finishing touches on our groundhogs!

And then TURNED OUT THE LIGHTS!!

And had SO MUCH FUN making groundhog shadows!!

Our little scientists made such amazing discoveries!!

And then we turned our attention to letter O!

Can you guess what outstanding marine animal we learned about?

OH... and we enjoyed a very special CheeriO snack too!!
Do you know what letter shape Cheerios are???

Look who stopped by to have a little snack too!!

Once our bellies were full, we used our leftover Cheerios as suction cups for our octopus tentacles...
(shhh... don't tell your little marine biologist that they were working on their counting and fine motor skills while doing so!!)

Our outstanding marine masterpieces are drying in our classroom and will be coming home on Monday!

Hope you have a picture perfect week,

Paula Dobres
