Week of February 24, 2020

Although this was a short week, it was packed full of learning fun!  Some of our highlights were dental health, camouflage, paint mixing, polar bears, rain, rainbows, goop and Bee Bots!  Ask your little scientist to tell you all about how rainbows are made, what two colors you need to make gray, what happens to make thunder, what camouflage means, and how to make GOOP!  Also, don't forget to ask your little one to sing our tooth brushing song and why brushing their teeth is so important.

I was so impressed with our little engineers' ability to code with our little bee robots - BeeBots!  They had so much fun programming the robots to travel around our classroom (see photos above).  We will continue coding with more difficult challenges in the upcoming weeks.

Please remember to dress your child in their favorite rainbow color for Wednesday (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet).

Also, please return your popcorn permission slip with your preference as soon as possible.  Thank you!  (Everyone did sign one for our Five Senses Unit earlier in the school year but I need one for Popcorn Math and Letter Writing as well.)

And we are SOOOO EXCITED for Pajama Day on Friday!!!  Please have your little sleepyhead  bring in one "snuggly" friend (teddy bear, doll, stuffed animal, etc) on Friday.  We will be making a class graph with our bedtime buddies.

Week of February 17, 2020

A great big thank you to Mrs. Selser and Mrs. Rozanski for such an amazing Valentine's Day Party!  We all had so much fun playing games and making crafts.  Thank you both for all the time and effort you put into making our Valentine's Day party so much fun for all of the children (and teachers)!

Our little loves really enjoyed delivering their Valentine's cards to each other's Valentine's Bags.  I hope they had fun opening them at home.

Letter Oo was "oh" so fun to learn about!  Our Owls and Octopuses looked outstanding!  We also enjoyed learning about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  And of course, we LOVED preparing for Valentine's Day and learned who loves us the MOST.  Ask your little sweethearts all about it!

I tried posting a video this week of the children singing our Valentine's Day Song but was unsuccessful.  I'm going to enlist the help of my teenagers to see if they can figure it out.  In the meantime, be sure to ask your little sweetie to sing it to you solo!

We will be wrapping up our unit on Weather in the upcoming two weeks.  Rain and Rainbows will be our focus as we finish up.  We have been so busy learning all about Weather and can't wait to share our newly acquired  knowledge with you... (We have a special little surprise in the making!)

Valentine's Day Craft

I LOVE my little SWEETHEARTS!!!

My fingers are crossed that all of our little ones have recovered from last week's PreK Flu outbreak!  I hope to see everyone back in school this week.  Mrs. Matthews and I have been disinfecting EVERYTHING in our classroom!  And we will work with all the children to get them caught up on everything they may have missed.

We had so much fun this week learning letter Nn and making some cute nests and starry night skies.  Our Noah's Arks are still drying in our classroom and will be sent home soon.  We also started working on some Valentine's Day crafts that we can't wait to show our families!  We are learning a cute new song as well and hope to be able to sing it for our families on Valentine's Day.  Be sure to mention it to your little sweetheart on Friday!

This week is promising to be a busy and fun one!  We will be learning letter Oo, continuing to work on number 6, focusing on Love and Valentine's Day as well as learning about President's Day!  We will be learning about clouds and rain in the next couple of weeks as well.  And of course we will be celebrating and exchanging cards on Friday.  (Please see below.)

Valentine's Day:  A notice went home through the children's backpacks but here's a little recap:  We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Friday, February 14th in our classroom.  We will be exchanging Valentine's Day Cards.  Please send in one card per child with only your own child's name on each as the from whom the card is and not the name for whom it is intended.  This will make distribution much easier as the children are only just beginning to recognize each other's names.  We have 10 children in our class.  The children can either make their own little cards or they may be purchased.  That is entirely up to you.  Please do not send in Valentines with food or candy as we have children with allergies in our school.  Your children may begin to bring in their cards whenever they are ready through our party day on the 14th.  This little homework idea is completely optional: you may want to take this opportunity to have your child write their first initial (or full name if they are able to) on each of their cards and then finish the rest of their name for him/her.

This Week's Focus will be on:
Letter of the Week: Oo
Number of the Month: 6

Praying for someone other than ourselves

Show & Tell:  NO Show and Tell this week due to Valentine's Day

Dates to Remember:
February 3rd through February 14th:  Bring Valentine's Day Cards to school
February 14th:  Valentine's Day Party  (Due to space restrictions, open to Room Parents only)

SNOWBALL FUN

SHADOWS

SHADOWS

GROUNDHOG SHADOWS

FLASHLIGHT SHADOWS

We have some exciting news in PreK-3!  We will be welcoming our new student named Addison starting this week!  She is so blessed to be coming into a class full of warm, loving and welcoming children and families!  We cannot wait for Addison and her family to become a part of our PreK family here at St Therese!  Her wonderful addition brings our class total to 10 children, four boys and six girls.  Please be sure to update your number of Valentine's Day cards to include our new friend.  Thank you!!

We had so much fun learning all about groundhogs and Groundhog's Day!  Be sure to check the news reports on Sunday, February 2nd, to see whether or not he saw his shadow!  We will be discussing the results on Monday as part of our Weather and Seasons Units.

Learning about shadows was a blast!  Ask your little weather reporter to demonstrate on their groundhog craft... all you need to supply is a flashlight!  You may want to ask him/her to sing you our groundhog song too.  If they forget the first line, you can start it up to trigger their memory...  Sung to "I'm a Little Teapot,"  "I'm a little groundhog, furry and round..."  That should get them going!

We also worked on our gross motor skills with some snowball fun.  Ask your little one all about it!

This upcoming week is looking to an exciting one.  We will be learning all about letter Nn as well as discussing the Groundhog's prediction.  We will also be kicking off our new February themes.... I  know they will LOVE them!
